Conversation Spotlight – Community Action for Environmental Sustainability (Part 1)

An interview with Angela Keller-Herzog from Community Action for Environmental Sustainability (CAFES) on conversations they hosted as part of the Green Resilience Project (GRP). CAFES is a network of local environmental and climate leaders in the city of Ottawa, with a mission of supporting effective environmental action in the local community and at the municipal level. Prompted and supported by GRP, they found success exploring a strategic partnership between The United Church of Canada’s presence in rural communities around Ottawa and CAFES’ network of climate change advocates.

In this two part video, Angela Keller-Herzog, Executive Director of CAFES Ottawa, answers the following questions:

Part 1

1. Can you tell us about the strategic partnership that CAFES Ottawa pursued as part of your GRP project experience?

2.The CAFES report for GRP states, “Another sizable challenge is the strong polarization surrounding climate change that rural areas like Navan are facing. Fear, misinformation, and division are closing community members off to participating in the fight against climate change.” How did this impact your approach to community conversations, and what did you learn?

3. What were some of your key takeaways from this experience?
