An interview with Jessica Tan from National Right to Housing Network (NRHN) on conversations they hosted as part of the Green Resilience Project (GRP). A national network dedicated to the progressive realization of the right to housing in Canada, and its meaningful implementation. NRHN used their GRP conversation as an opportunity to explore how climate resilience must be an essential component of the right to housing and how climate-related displacement, energy insecurity, and disaster response disproportionately affect those already struggling to access safe, affordable, and secure housing. In this two part video, Jessica Tan, Communications Lead, answers the following questions:
Part 1
- Can you tell us about the conversation you hosted on the connections between the right to housing and climate change?
- When you asked participants how the climate crisis and the right to housing intersect, what did you hear?
- A key takeaway included in the NRHN report to GRP was, “”we cannot talk about housing adequacy and housing justice without also acknowledging the critical role climate justice plays within the human right to adequate housing in Canada.” What is at stake if these issues are not addressed together?
- Is there anything you’d like to add?
